10th Annual Summer Meltdown | Whitehorse Amphitheater – Darrington, WA | Aug. 6-8   Buy Tickets Here

With Meltdown only a couple weeks away, SSG is excited to bring you Round 2 of some of this year’s scheduled performers for Saturday, August 7; find the Round 1 Previews here and the general festival preview here. For the full festival line-up, head over to the Summer Meltdown website. Without further ado……let’s keep this party going.

The Mother Hips – Saturday 6:25PM Main stage

As a general rule of thumb, a band that’s been making music and touring together for nearly two decades, is probably doing something right. For the record, The Mother Hips are doing it right. Not familiar with what they’re doing? Don’t feel bad, these guys have been real good at amassing a large fan base while flying under everyone else’s radar at the same time. After listening to some of their music, it won’t take long to figure out they’ve been heavily influenced by the music coming out of the west coast during the 60′s and 70′s. You’ll also note that while yes, they’ve been influenced, they aren’t just some throw-back band doing what’s already been done before. Occasionally peculiar lyrics, screaming guitars, epic jams, soul….yep, The Mother Hips does that; just don’t call them a jam-band.

Delhi 2 Dublin – Saturday 12:10AM Garden stage

Can you dance a Celtic jig? Maybe you prefer the thumping beats spun by a DJ? Does the twang of a sitar getting you moving? If you can answer yes to any or all of these questions then Delhi 2 Dublin is the answer to your mash-up prayers. Delhi 2 Dublin, out of Vancouver, BC is bringing world music to a whole new level with their brilliant ability to fuse Bhangra, Celtic, and Dub into a house party of a good time. This dynamic quintet originally formed for a performance at Vancouver’s Celtic Fest in 2006 and since then, they have been grabbing the attention of fans all over Canada and the west coast.I was two minutes into the first hypnotic track, DJ Swami’s Dil Nachde Swamified Remix, before I realized the vocalist, Sanjay, was spouting lyrics in something besides English. Under the spell of Tarun, Ravi & Andrew, who throw down the magic beats and rhythm and mesmerized by the fiddle player, Kytami, I had almost missed one of the most intriguing layers of this group. Too often, I disconnect from music with foreign lyrics. I spend so much time wanting to know what’s being sung that I can’t focus on anything else. Delhi 2 Dublin transcends this stigma; their music speaks for itself. This week’s undiscovered musical gem has me yearning for a sari, a pint of Guinness and a Punjabi to English dictionary and I couldn’t be more excited. -Jodi Kaufer, 6/25/09

Flowmotion – Thursday 8PM & Saturday 9:20PM Main stage

Flowmotion is not just the headlining act of Meltdown, they are also the driving force behind its creation. The first Meltdown was held on a friend’s property on the San Juan Islands and since then, the festival has outgrown several locations. Flowmotion is well known within the Seattle music scene and has recently been garnering the attention of music lovers across the nation. While rooted heavily in guitar-driven rock, Flowmotion is not your average rock band; this is one of those bands that simply must be experienced live. The infectious energy is brought to life by dance floor-ready funk, blues-heavy grooves, and pure unadulterated, melt-your-face, rock. Whether they are found playing a small bar stage, arena floor, or outdoor amphitheater, Flowmotion never waver about what they came to do. The audience is carried away and brought along for the adventure created by the magicians disguised as musicians; or maybe these musicians really are magicians.

For everyone staying for Sunday, you won’t be disappointed. Meltdown really should be experienced as a multi-day event. There is a swell that builds over the course of the weekend and by the time Sunday night rolls around, the music is surging at full throttle. Starting the day off is the traditional Little Seahorse performance on the main stage. The Little Seahorse Music Academy runs a tent in the kids area that assembles interested, aspiring musicians and spends several hours over the weekend creating and practicing for their performance on Sunday. Get your day started with the kiddies and be prepared to have your mind blown over how talented these youngsters already are. There will also be a full line-up of grown-up musicians to keep you entertained as well. Beecraft, Spanish for 100, Hot Buttered Rum, McTuff, Dumpstaphunk, and more will keeping you going through the day with Everyone Orchestra bringing the weekend to a close. There are only 9 days left til Meltdown, are you ready?
