Summer has finally arrived here in the Pacific Northwest, only time will tell how long it intends to stick around. Regardless of how long summer decides to stick around, we music lovers can at least rejoice for the return of festival season, rain or shine. The Pacific Northwest is lucky to have some great festivals right here in our own backyard: Sasquatch!, Bumbershoot, Capitol Hill Block Party, and more. While all of the local festivals are great fun, there are some that are still relatively unknown yet certainly worth some attention; Summer Meltdown is one of those festivals.

2010 marks the 10th anniversary for Summer Meltdown; a remarkable achievement for the homegrown festival brought to life by local rockers, Flowmotion. Last year, over 4000 people descended upon the Whitehorse Amphitheater for three days of music, relaxation, and good times. This year’s festival once again features a stellar line-up of artists primarily from the west coast. Headliners, in addition to Flowmotion, The Presidents of the United States of America and Dumpstaphunk make this year one of the best line-ups to date. Other acts scheduled to perform include: Delhi 2 Dublin, Five Alarm Funk, Panda Conspiracy, EOTO, The Mutaytor Manooghi Hi, Spanish for 100, Levi Ware, and many more. Meltdown offers more than just a weekend filled with great music. Browse the Vendor Village for some new duds. Take your little ones to the Meltdown Kids area and help them create the next piece of art to make it’s way onto your refrigerator. Check out the Green Village for a collection of vendors, non-profits, and workshops exemplifying sustainability, responsibility, and community. **Fast Facts** In the past five years, Summer Meltdown has reduced the festival’s landfill waste by 50 percent and is partnering with ZeroHero in this year’s waste management efforts to increase their landfill diversion rate (through recycling and composting) from 58% last year to 80% or more this year.
