Post-rock royalty is among us. Tonight, Do Make Say Think will be gracing the stage of Chop Suey, and it will never be the same again. Do Make Say think has been around since 1996, and they were one of the first pioneers in the genre of post-rock, a title that is loved as much as it is hated. Avid followers in this niche community had been waiting with bated breath nearly four years for new material from Do Make Say Think, and when advances were being distributed in September 2009 for the October 20, 2009 release of Other Truths, the press went wild.

One zine in particular, The Silent Ballet, arose as if it were a dormant army in e-mail strings and chatter. “Could this be a 9/10?” they volleyed in heated discussions. Agreements were made, arguments were tossed, an executive editor mediated, and all of this panted on until the review was unveiled by Senior Writer, Joseph Sannicandro.

What was all the fuss about? This album is really good. 44 minutes are split between songs entitled “Do,” “Make,” “Say,” and “Think.” Egocentric much? No. This album is an embodiment of over a decade of canonical history and pathways to the future of Do Make Say Think, possibly many other bands as well. Each song takes the listener on an interpretative journey with how each word correlates to this contextual past, present, and future. To give readers an abridged description of what to expect, the album consists of instrumental rock reminiscent of the late 90’s, current sounds of light distortion, melodic tones, soft horns, rhythmic drums, and progression that is signature to Do Make Say Think.
