Seattle Show Gal Needs Photographers

Hello lovely SSG readers,

I’m Katy, the brand new photo manager for Seattle Show Gal. SSG is going to begin building an archive of concert and band photos, including more photos in concert review posts, and possibly  publishing some photo essays!

This means that first and foremost SSG needs to build a team of volunteer concert photographers from the Seattle area. That means YOU!

There are many benefits to being a photographer for SSG:
1) Get into shows for free.
2) Build up your portfolio.
3) Master working in the least friendly of light conditions.
4) Make new pals.
5) Fame and glory.

If you are interested, please send an email to katy@seattleshowgal.com with the subject line “Photo Team.” In the body of the email, tell me a little bit about yourself and your background in photography (a link to a flickr would be rad as well). Also, please make sure to include your age (for assigning shows, 21+, all ages, etc) and what photo equipment you are working with. Point-and-shoots need not apply.

Thanks so much, readers. I can’t wait to hear from you!

TicketsWest no, ETIX.COM YES!

March 4th, 2010

If you hadn’t noticed, Seattle Show Gal fancies a lot of shows that go down at Neumos. There is going to be a major ticketing change that starts tomorrow and all of our readers need to know about it. Neumos is no longer going to be in partnership with TicketsWest. They are going to be using ETIX.COM as of tomorrow. If you are a consumer that purchases tickets directly from the Neumos website, this might not have that big of an effect on you.

This will have a huge impact on consumers who are accustomed to picking up tickets from Rudy’s Barber Shop and select QFC locations; you will not be able to make Neumos ticket purchases at said locations until further notice. If you prefer to purchase your tickets in person, you will still be able to pick up your tickets from MOE Bar.

On the plus side, ticketing fees will be going down, and consumers can purchase tickets right up until the the time the doors open–you can even make your purchase directly from your iPhone! It used to be the case that ticket sales cut off at 2pm.  To illustrate why this is such a bonus, lets look at The Lonely Forest show that took place on Tuesday. There were 40 tickets left at 8pm, and a line around the block. With the ETIX.COM iPhone app, consumers could have secured their tickets from the back of the line, and left the suckers at the front of the line gnashing their teeth, claiming, “I’m with the DJ!” This new partnership is a great thing. Know about it, and don’t call the Neumos offices wondering why you can’t buy tickets from Rudy’s anymore–you’ve been informed!

Here’s a random video … because I feel like it.

Introducing: “New Music”

November 15th, 2009

new_music

Being a music centric blog, Seattle Show Gal has gotten lots of requests to review new albums. We’re not going to start doing that fully, but we are going to start sharing new music that we like–blurb style! By blurb, I mean that we are not going to go in depth regarding the history of the band, the trending of the genre, or even an in depth look at the entire album if we’re not moved to do so. We’re going to be blurbing at about 150+ words per “New Music” post. We’re not going to take on the responsibility of telling you what to purchase and what not to purchase, Seattle Show Gal Staff are simply going to let you know what we’re into and direct you to where you can find it. if you’re into it, GREAT!

Parameters for Seattle Show Gal to post new music:

The music must either be unreleased or released within in the last two months. If the music is released, the artists must be playing or have played a show in the Seattle area within a three month period of posting. Artists/Labels must agree to allow SSG to post songs for listening, not downloading, purposes.

Pretty short and sweet–just like the “New Music” posts will be. Welcome to “New Music” by way of Seattle Show Gal. Enjoy!

SSG is Expanding!!!

April 24th, 2009

Being proactive with the beat of the city, I will be running previews for some choice events. Along those lines, there have been many that have wanted to know what’s on my radar as far as shows I’m going to and what’s hot. I am also going to be featuring an “On My Radar” post on a weekly basis. Please keep in mind, just because I run a preview or announce what’s on my radar doesn’t guarantee that I am going be at any certain event. The easiest way for you to be locked in with what I am actually doing is to follow me on Twitter.

I look forward to serving you soon!

Your,

And That’s What’s Up!

March 3rd, 2009

There have been some exciting things coming going on!

SSG News!
SSG is now on TWITTER! Now my site won’t be such a “black box” as far as what is going on and what I’m up to. Click over, add me, all that good stuff. I also installed “Twitter Tools” so you can look over at my side bar and see what I’m up to at your convenience. :)

I created a sub-blog! I need to keep Seattle Show Gal restricted to Live Show Reviews, Music News, and Interviews. That being said, sometimes a girl just needs to rant! So I created Seattle Show Gal’s Sub-Blog for all those slightly off topic posts. In the future when you see twitters for SSG Main, that will be in reference to the original Seattle Show Gal, and when you see SSG Sub-Blog, that will be referencing the new blog. :)

In SSG/Music News!
Wednesday:
Be sure to check in because I’ll be posting a special interview with SOL!

Wednesday night in Music: I’ll be reviewing Gary Jules and Donavon Frankenreiter at Neumos, so look for the girl with an afro and a video camera.

Thursday in Music: We’ll have our own local celebrities The Kindness Kind opening up for one of my favorite acts, Peter Broderick. Peter is supporting Efterklang; I’m looking forward to seeing them for the first time.

Friday in Music: There is a ton of stuff going on! I have chosen to take a chance on our own MOTORIK! As Motorik is part of the XO Publicity family, I am looking forward to checking out their album release party.

Saturday in Music: SOL is going to be tearing it up at Sound Off! Scream for him, cheer for him, root for him; he has one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen on a Hip-Hop artist. I know he is going to be bringing it full force to this competition.

Sunday in Music: I’ll be making my way over to The Sunset Tavern to check out The Whore Moans. I hear she actually does… I’ll get some certifiable evidence and report back!

SSG/In other News
You will notice that there is going to be a slight gap in Show Review content this week. That would be because I Power KEXP! Over the weekend I spent quite a bit of time in the studio in support of the membership drive. Have you shown your support for this non-profit radio station yet? To horribly understate this, If it weren’t for KEXP, our local music scene would not be what it is. They power independent music, but they couldn’t do it without us! Click over to kexp.org right now and do your part to keep independent and local music flourishing! When it comes to KEXP, each of us can say, “there would be no me without you.” Click over right now and join the family of KEXP Members! :)

That’s everything for now! Was that enough links for you? :)   Talk to you soon!

NEWS!!!

January 12th, 2009

Extra, Extra!!!

First of all, thank you so much for the warm reception from both bands and individuals over the past few weeks. I couldn’t have imagined that I would have made so many contacts so fast. Thank you for all your requests for me to visit your shows, and thank you for your willingness to add me to your guest lists. I have such a full calendar of upcoming events to review, and I’m looking forward to being in the thick of our thriving musical community.

Along with the warm reception I am please to announce the friendship formed between Electronic Voice Phenomenon and I. EVP will be featuring article summaries of my Live Show Reviews as expanded content on their site. Some other things you will find on EVP are Album Reviews, and Band interviews among other things. Check EVP out on a regular basis to expand your musical awareness.

Some other things to keep in mind are, post production for each Live Show Review is about 4 to 5 hours PER BAND. Looking at my current week as an example, I am reviewing approximately 10 bands between Jan 11th and Jan 17th which equates to at least 50 hours of post concert production. Also in addition to these reviews that I love so dearly, I do work full time; so please be patient if you are wondering, “where is my freaking review…” My promise is to get your review published within seven days of the show come hell or high water!!!

On a SSG personal note, I like to feature independent music on my Myspace Profile page. You will more then likely find a song up from a band that I recently reviewed. I think that is a really cool way to increase awareness of some of the gems that are out there, yet to be uncovered. Of course there will be the occasional “What the Heck?” song up, but that just depends on the mood that I am in. :)

Also, I’ve been getting questions from people on what shows to go check out, so a new feature will be “The SSG Official Recommendations,” and you will more then likely see me at these shows.
Please stay tuned! There is a lot of good stuff coming. :)
