Yeasayer @ Main Stage @ CHBP on Friday, July 23
Yeasayer was last in Seattle in April, when they played a show at Neumos that sold out almost immediately after tickets went on sale. As one who was unable to attend this show, my curiosity was naturally piqued, especially since Yeasayer’s last show was met with mixed reviews. Having had Yeasayer’s recent release Odd Blood stuck on repeat for quite some time, I was pleased to discover that the band plays nearly all of the songs off of this album, and sounds as good live as they do recorded. The Brooklyn, New Yorkers even have the intricate vocal harmonies down, including impressively high falsettos. With that being said, Yeasayer seems to have the same problem as Broken Bells in that their live show isn’t much to behold; whether you stood in the front row or a block away, the music was enjoyable to listen to, and visuals were unimportant. Still, Yeasayer pulls of a unique brand of experimental indie rock that is remarkably accomplished on their latest album, which deserves a listen.
