An argument can be made that with the current surge of DIY and otherwise unconventional music, we are living in a golden age of experimental music. Indeed, almost ironically, indie music seems to requisite entirely different and unheard sounds from bands entering the fray. Los Angeles group Big Moves conveys a new-wave, ambient sound that is shared by others in the genre, however they add several elements that uniquely set them apart.
Jess Imme leads the band with vocals that draw obvious influence from Bjork, both in their slightly abrasive qualities and abstract lyricism. She is backed by tracks that eloquently pull from disco, jazz, and electronica as they are blended into their pervasive indie rock sound. This group has a raw feel of a young band that is on the cusp of becoming something truly special. Check out their dreamy “My Room Becomes a Forest” and the upbeat track “Lantern” to get a taste for their music, and leave it to SSG to keep you posted on this exciting new band.
