…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Future of the Left ,Born Anchors @ Neumos 10/13 | $15

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, that pompous, extravagant behemoth of an indie rock band, is coming to Seattle again. Their last Seattle show, in March, was loud and raucous. They flailed about, shouted and screamed, and they sent mic stands flying in all their intensity. They’re known for skipping some of their more orchestral and fancy bits and sticking to their rockinest when they play live. This ought to be fun.
Century of Self is a return to form for the band, after the piano-heavy So Divided and the somewhat uninspired songs on Worlds Apart. Let’s not even talk about The Secret of Elena’s Tomb, the no-effort bore of an EP that followed the monstrous and important Source Tags and Codes. Century of Self is often thunderous and over-orchestrated, making for a self-important sound that really make Trail of Dead one of a kind. They’re unforgettable this way–they’re messy but it always sounds as though they have an orchestra in the studio with them. This show will be a highfalutin punch in the throat.
The bombastic and awesome Future of the Left and “the most exciting rock band in Seattle,” Born Anchors.
