Jazzanova @ Chop Suey 11/20 | 9pm | $12
Chop Suey will earn it’s nickname, “Chop Sweaty,” on Friday night as the Berlin based DJ/ producer collective known as Jazzanova will be making things steamy at the Capital Hill music venue. They might be a jazz band, but they aren’t your grandpa’s type of jazz. Jazzanova plays a fusion of new and old school sounds, with styles ranging from hip-hop and drum & bass to Latin jazz and afro funk. Their most recent album, Of All The Things, is soaked in old school soul and R&B. At points, it recalls some of the classic Marvin Gaye grooves of the 1970’s, complete with silky soul singing and sexy melodies. Jazzanova’s first album, “In Between,” is a sonic explosion with a sprinkling of soul, hip-hop, acid jazz, and electronica.
Jazzanova plays music with an infectious rhythm that will surely make you move your feet. This will be Jazzanova DJ Alex Barck’s first club show in Seattle in over four years, so don’t miss out on one of his rare northwest shows. They will be joined by local DJ SunTzu Sound with DJ Riz and Made Like a Tree spinning in the lounge for what’s sure to be two rooms of booty shakin fun.
Want to go to the show for free? Email contests@seattleshowgal.com with the word “Jazzanova” in the heading for your chance to win two tickets. Don’t forget to include the name the tickets should be held under at the door.
