Melt Banana @ Chop Suey 12/11 | 9pm | $12

Don’t believe the hype about Melt Banana being a noisy pop rock band. Maybe this was true when Dave Witte was drumming for them, but it’s not true anymore. Melt Banana is a noise rock band with an edge, and they are the fastest band ever who still manages to be fun. They play a unique kind of hardcore punk that has enough of a playful edge and energetic live show that causes everyone to have a good time. Indie rock nerds love Melt Banana. They know about the advantage of being able to tell their significant others, “Look honey, Melt Banana are like The 5.6.7.8′s but It’ll totally melt your face off!” And they do, too. Melt Banana are a Japanese band that play lightning-speed chaotic hardcore with a pop edge. They’re known for their scathing live shows that involve a lot of messiness and strangely enough, cuteness. Their guitarist will duct tape his face into a surgical mask and convulse on the floor while they do it, too.
Melt Banana shows are legendary. They’re the shows that draw out all the metal and grindcore fans, and at the same time they’re a big draw for the aging hipster crowd. Everyone has a good time, and if you go, you will too. How often will you get to see a mind-numbingly fast Japanese band that appeals to fans of both The Flaming Lips and The Locust, anyway? Don’t miss their show at Chop Suey this Friday!
