Modern Athletics with Pink Ashes and Larly Larlie. @ High Dive | 04/28 | 8 PM | $5 | 21+
“Give us a shove, it will feel like love.” –Modern Athletics
Simple rhyming schemes and melodic harmonies lace this band’s effort with carefree summer fun. You kind of get the feeling when listening to them that Modern Athletics is just beginning to come out of their shell. Modern Athletics just got out of the studio recording their EP Rule the Game at the end of March, and they are following it up lots of shows coming up in Seattle this Spring and Summer.
Their most impressive song (available to stream on their myspace page) is “Give Us A Shove”, which highlights their ability for song construction amidst lighthearted lyrics. They have elements of pop-punk, garage rock, and even some Paul Simon and Cat Stevens in their slower moments. This appears to be the beginning of a healthy and successful career in Seattle for Modern Athletics. In the coming months they will most likely be faced with what direction they want to go as a band, because behind their quirky lyrics and power chords lies very capable song writing and talent. Don’t let this band fool you with their humorous lyrics: they are serious musicians and make great music. They will be playing April 28th at the High Dive as part of the Nada Mucho showcase, alongside Pink Ashes and Larly Larlie.

YEAH! So true. Well written review!!
