School of Seven Bells make amazing music. They mix the organic with the electronic so comfortably that it becomes hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. Twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza really seem to gel with Benjamin Curtis (formerly of Secret Machines) on the sonic journey that is their debut album, Alpinisms. Layered melodies, two harmonizing female vocalists, and electronic beats. Alpinisms often manages to sound like a laser/light show without the lasers or the lights;  dream-pop taken to new, mountainous, snow-peaked heights.  One can’t help but to wonder how  the kaleidoscopic nature of their music will translate to a live setting.

These three are sure to put on an unforgettable show.

Warpaint

Warpaint operate on the other side of the dream-pop spectrum. Like SVIIB, they have soft female vocals, but they are more conventional–bass, drums, guitar, keys, vocals. They’ve got sort of relaxed, dazed Beach House-ish vocals and really offer a more psychedelic and loose counter to SVIIB’s more strictly structured songs. “Billie Holiday,” Warpaint’s slowed-down, hypnotic cover of Mary Well’s 1964 classic “My Guy” (revived in the Whoopi Goldberg hit film Sister Act as “My God“) is a great song that truly exemplifies what they can do. Warpaint’s debut EP, Exquisite Corpse, will be out on October 13th.
