The Greyboy Allstars @ Showbox at the Market | 01/20 | 7:30PM (21+) | $20 Advance $23 Day of Show

The Greyboy Allstars are funky, but they are so much more than a funk band. The vocals keep alive a blues vibe and they throw boogaloo, soul, and jazz into the mix too. But, they’re more than that too. They’re talented. Not just that technical kind of talent, but something special–the talent to get a room moving and keep that room moving all night. Founded by DJ Greyboy in the early nineties, The Greyboy Allstars have (with and without DJ Greyboy in the band) become a national word-of-mouth sensation much like Medeski Martin and Wood, Galactic, or even the Spam Allstars.
These are the modern torch-bearers of what James Brown made famous. His influence is clear. Everyone knows that at a Greyboy show, you’re going to burn some calories and have a good time. They’ve gotten the word out by playing various jam festivals around the country, and that is one fickle audience to break into. Fifteen years after the release of their first record, West Coast Boogaloo, DJ Greyboy and crew will be shaking up the night in the very heart of Seattle with their show at the Showbox at the Market.

No disrespect, but this preview only tells half the story of tonight’s show. The Greyboy Allstars had best bring their “A game” tonight because openers Orgone surely will. L.A.-based Orgone has repeatedly burnt smaller venues like Nectar and Neumos to the ground with their incendiary blend of funk, soul and afrobeats. They have a big sound that should translate well to the big room at the Showbox. Orgone’s set is scheduled to run 8:30-9:30 and anybody there is in for a treat. Don’t miss it!
None taken. Orgone is a killer live band
