Sap’n @ Neumos | 02/09 | 8pm | $8

Yesterday, SSG gave you a spot on preview of this evening’s Ladies Night at Neumo’s. Featuring the hip-hop talents of THEE Satisfaction and Katie Kate, the show is sure to keep the dance floor rocking all night long. DJ Colby B will be playing her wonderful blend of hip-hop and electro jams before newcomers Sap’n take the stage. In this writer’s opinion there’s nothing better than slightly abrasive high energy electro-pop with dancing band members to get a party started. Either you instantly love it, grab a drink, and head to the dancefloor, or hate it and retreat to the bar where after 2-3 Jager bombs you find yourself tapping your foot and eventually consign to bouncing to that ever driving 1,2,3,4 electro beat. Point being, regardless of your initial reaction, get your drink on and prepare to shake it to Mitch K’s beats and 80’s bellsynths as Regina Aletto’s high energy soul singing gets the feeling right on this Ladies Night! As a special treat they will be covering this event’s eponymous song by Lil’ Kim et al.

Yuni in Taxco @ The Cha Cha Lounge | 02/09 | 9pm | Free

Doubly pleased by accidentally stumbling over this band and by the fact that the Cha Cha is hosting more shows, SSG highlights Yuni in Taxco. Across the street from Neumos, and without cover, Bimbos and the Cha will be hosting their regular unofficial prefunk for Neumos show. Featuring upbeat southern-rock inspired harmonies backed by fluttering guitar riffs and a Latin rhythm section to flourish there otherwise indie rock sound, this is the perfect band to enjoy a burrito and a shot or two of the Cha Cha’s finest well tequila!

Editor’s note: SSG encourages you to drink responsibly. We would encourage the above author as well, but we understand he’s already at the Cha…

THEE Satisfaction, Katie Kate @ Neumos |  02/09 | 8 pm | $8

THEE Satisfaction

Seattle has a really strong hip hop scene, but often overlooked are the many female fronted groups that are also out there holdin’ it down. Whether you are unfamiliar with this side of the scene or an avid supporter, make sure you get down to Neumos Tuesday night to check out the action.  THEE Satisfaction will be  bringing their upbeat positive flows, and sweet dance moves to the stage to headline this all female review.

Their style is a blend of classic hip-hop hooks and smooth R&B vocal overlays reminiscent of Erykah Badu.  Tracks such as “Waltz” are clean, jazzy, rhythmic, and have vocals that will leave you bobbing your head. Musically, they are solid all the way around, and as stage presence goes, you will not be disappointed.  These ladies know how to perform. Check out this track from their set at Sneaker Pimps, and then go to their Myspace for a better listen.

Katie Kate

If you ever found yourself on Katie Kate’s myspace, you wouldn’t have to look around very long before you started to notice that she is a bit of a contradiction. Self proclaimed farm girl turned hip-hop star, her music is a clever mixture of urban tales and country innuendo; particularly the track “hunting,” a song about hitting the club and looking to hook up, euphemized with lines about guns and bait.  Her rhymes are smart and smooth, as are the beats and hooks.  If you’ve never seen her, take the time this Tuesday to head down to Neumos. It’s a pretty deep bill, with Canary Sing, Lisa Dank, Queerbait, Sap’n, and DJ Colby B.  Show starts at eight so get there early!
