When The Oregon Donor got on stage, they told the crowd that tonight was a special show for several reasons. One reason was that it was their drummer’s birthday not long ago. Another was that it was also a light show as part of the act. The light show turned out to be a small flood light and strobe, which their friend at the bar controlled, and it looked like he did it by plugging and unplugging them in time with the music–pretty spiffy!
The Oregon Donor is a hard band to classify. Since this band come from Anacortes, they frequently find themselves being compared to The Lonely Forest. While both bands have a solid indie rock sound, The Oregon Donor has a more jam-filled sound. Christopher Rabbit’s slight warble makes their songs always interesting to listen to, especially during the song “Morse Code.”
Time flew by during the show, and I didn’t realize that I left the camera running until it ran out of tape. The Oregon Donor is a great live band. They peppered their banter with quotes from the movie “I Love You Man” while reminding us that it was Kyle’s birthday. Near the end of the set, they started declaring every song their last song. It seemed like their set would just keep going, and no one in the audience would have minded.
The Oregon Donor has been touring up a storm lately in support of their latest album A Pagent’s End. Here is a clip from their October 14 show at The Sunset Tavern.
