Chris Staples, Bill Patton, Mike Dumovich, @ The Sunset Tavern | 05/12 | $6 | 8pm
In yet another shining example of how wonderfully prolific Seattle can be musically, Chris Staples will be playing The Sunset Tavern tonight. Staples’ sound tends toward the acoustic. There’s an unusual amount of warmth there and his voice is as earnest and inviting as can be. He’s been doing it for 15 years now, either with Twothirtyeight, Discover America, as the touring guitarist for Telekinesis, or on his own. Some of his work is folky, some bluesy. Most of it is great. His latest album, Badlands, should be available at the show. Go watch him, you’ll feel good about it.
Catch Chris at The Blue Moon tomorrow, too.
Vampire Hands, Daughters of the Sun, Modern Athletics, @ The Comet Tavern | 05/12 |
Minneapolis’ Daughters of the Sun are on tour with fellow Minnesotans Vampire Hands (with whom they also have a split LP entitled Skull Judge available on Modern Radio) and they’re hitting the Comet Tavern tonight to bless Seattle with some psychedelic goodness. Daughters of the Sun play psychedelic rock but also use electronic loops and warbles freely. They toe the line between instrumental and electronic psychedelia comfortably and confidently. Based on their various youtube videos, Their shows are loud and are probably best enjoyed under the influence.
Also at The Comet Tonight are Modern Athletics. For a well-written rundown of their sound look no further than our own Brady McGarry’s preview for their show at the end of April.
