Hey Marseilles @ Crocodile | 1/30 | 8 pm | $13

Hey Marseilles always puts on a great and fun show, but Portland’s Loch Lomond is a bit of an uncertainty for me. They sound a bit like Cloud Cult, with very mellow and relaxing acoustic sets, a clarinet, mandolin, theremin, and vibraphone. The recently got finished touring with The Decemerists, Go for Hey Marseilles’ orchestral pop, and hopefully enjoy the soothing sounds of Loch Lomond.

Handful of Luvin @ Tractor Tavern | 1/30 | 8 pm | $10 (SOLD OUT!)

I just found out that this show sold out, so if you have tickets, consider yourself lucky. This band was voted 3rd in the Best Local Band of Western Washington by King 5 in 2009, and was number 5 in 2008. They are a folk rock band, but there are plenty of other styles thrown in. The violinist, Andrew Joslyn, plays like an absolute fiend, with guitarist David John barely managing to compete, especially for the song “Elephant.” They are releasing their new album, Life in Between, and this band has just been getting better and better.

Alabaster & Atomic Bride @ Comet | 1/30 | 9 pm | $7

If you are in the mood for some decent punk, then the Comet is the place to be tonight. Alabaster and Atomic Bride are both female fronted, and have a very sharp edge to them. Atomic Bride released their first CD last year, and while the intros to most their songs are nothing special, theirs body’s are incredibly catchy, especially “Reap” and “She’s So Atomic.” Their songs all have a vaguely surf rock sound with a solid post-punk heart to them.

Visqueen Music Video Shoot

As Suzi pointed out, my love of Visqueen is not a well kept secret. This afternoon, from 4 pm-9 pm, they are shooting a music video for Messages for Garcia, and they are asking for extras. This seems to be similar to what Viper Creek Club was doing for their song “Eliza,” but with a bit more control on who shows up, so if you want to be in the video, be sure to email hellvisqueen@gmail.com before noon today to get information.

The Atomic Bride video is from back when we were just starting, this is much more accurate(there’s not even a bassist yet in that version of the song!):

Thanks for letting me know. I replaced the video in the post with the one you provided. I hope you have fun tonight.
